MF Physical Therapy

Holistic, one-on-one, full body healing

Specializing in Fascial Counterstrain

About Meghan

Meghan started MF Physical Therapy in November of 2024 when she realized an opportunity to offer better quality of care using a different patient-centered approach to Physical Therapy. She believes more one-on-one time with each patient is paramount to true, full body healing. Only when tissues are healthy and working optimally can the introduction of exercise and conditioning begin. And only when strength and mobility are achieved can truly balanced movement allow one to experience decreased pain and sensitivity to activity.

Meghan graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2013 with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and since then, has devoted her continuing education to Fascial Counterstrain. She embraces the opportunity to combine her specialized manual skills with her passion for exercise and sport. Meghan retired from professional triathlon in 2020 after intensive training, conditioning, and racing for over 13 years. Now, because of her own experience with the training and conditioning involved in triathlon, she can assist others through their own personal endeavors, be it at the recreational or competitive level.

While in the clinic, Meghan uses specific exercise and focused therapy to facilitate improved body awareness and movement for sport, as well as for everyday life. Outside the clinic, she continues to condition herself and her dogs so she may actively compete with them in AKC events around the PNW, including agility, rally/obedience, scent work, conformation, and hunt tests. The time she spends with her llamas also makes hiking and backpacking a fun endeavor. One day, she hopes to be able to provide rehabilitative physical and manual therapy to animals.

Services

Enrolled and Participating Medicare Provider

Medicare patients are accepted based on medical necessity. The Center for Medicare Services (CMS) very clearly defines what a physical therapist can, and cannot, bill for reimbursement. Therefore, Meghan only accepts patients wanting to use Medicare benefits for situations that involve a significant functional limitation, an acute injury, or for post operative rehabilitation. In such cases, an evidenced-based, skilled therapeutic treatment will be provided, as defined and required by CMS and the American Physical Therapy Association.

Individuals who seek FCS and body work will be considered for cash service only. Please request an appointment with Meghan to determine what option is best suited to address your needs.

Fascial Counterstrain / Body Work Session

Self pay, cash rate: $150 / hour

Additional 30-minute increments may be added for $50.

Meghan has chosen to maintain her autonomy in making the best clinical decisions for her patients so she can better provide the service they prefer. As a result, she is out-of-network with all commercial insurances, including Medicare Advantage Plans.

Though Meghan will not submit any information to your insurance, if your insurance plan covers out-of-network benefits, she will provide you the medical documentation needed to submit for reimbursement of her services. She cannot guarantee what amount, if any, will be reimbursed.

What is Fascial Counterstrain?

A new and emerging approach to fascial release, FCS is a low intensity type of manual therapy that works to release spasm and inflammation in all body tissues. Therefore, FCS allows the trained clinician to treat dysfunction associated not only with muscle, ligaments, and bone, but also organs, viscera, arteries, veins, adipose, head and neck lymphatics, and dura. All of these tissues can be adversely affected by dysfunction, often attributed to trapped inflammation. This can manifest as pain and sensitivity, which is the body’s local protective response to injury. Pain that was once of local origin can grow to become more global and systemic, which we call central sensitization. Once the inflammatory response is triggered, painful tender points develop throughout the body. FCS releases the guarded tissue and tender points by gently unloading the affected area.

By positioning the body in a particular, anatomical way, and by using gentle compression and glides of an affected area or tissue, Meghan is able to facilitate a therapeutic release using FCS. As a result, the tissue relaxes, reducing tension and relieving pain. A patient will often realize that a once tender point will feel soft and less painful upon release. On a deeper level, this indicates the first step toward complete tissue healing and a return to function to allow the patient to be more effective with postural adjustments and strengthening exercises.
